The stock market finished lower on Thursday, reversing its previous course due to a strong sell-off with many large-cap stocks hitting floor prices.

Indices retreated on Thursday morning as strong selling pressure weighed on sentiment again.

Capital mobilisation plans are now the centre of attention at the 2022 general meeting of shareholders of securities companies, with diversified fundraising channels.

Shares advanced for a second day but liquidity fell to a low level, showing investors’ caution about the market outlook.

The market was mixed on Wednesday morning, due to a strong divergence among large-cap stocks since the beginning of trading.

More than 2.5 million new investors have jumped into the stock market since April 2020, when the stock market hit the bottom due to the sudden outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As of the end of April, Vietnam’s stock market has over 5.2 million securities accounts, of which retail investors make up 98.9%.

Despite a stellar economic performance, Vietnam’s stock market is still some way off an upgrade to emerging market designation, with a series of efforts requiring implementation in order to bring the domestic landscape in line with international standards.
